The Italian Premiere of "The Tell-Tale Heart": Review on giornale della musica

“Dreams. Visions. Hallucinations” WunderKammer Orchestra

On March 19th and 20th, the WunderKammer Orchestra, in partnership with the University of Urbino Carlo Bo and the Polytechnic University of Marche in Ancona, presented a new arrangement of Willem Jeths' monodrama "The Tell-Tale Heart" on the stages of the Sanzio Theater in Urbino and Teatro Sperimentale. Originally for soprano and orchestra, the work has been arranged for soprano and ensemble by Fergus McAlpine.

In the review published in the Italian journal Giornale della Musica, Lucia Fava provided commentary on the Italian premiere of Willem Jeths' monodrama "The Tell-Tale Heart" alongside Mahler's 4th Symphony.

The young soprano Jelena Dojčinović, born in Switzerland to Serbian-Bosnian parents, interpreted the text with great intensity, tackling the complex vocal part with confidence and expressive variety, encompassing singing, declamation, and even screams. She immersed herself in the character, adding theatrical depth to the performance. Her skill, alongside that of the conductor Mattia Dattolo, also very young, leading the WunderKammer Orchestra-Camerata degli Ammutinati, did justice to this piece of great compositional interest. (Lucia Fava, giornale della musica, March 19, 2024)
